Mr. Shaw is the Founder and Chairman of Shaw Kwei & Partners, a private equity fund manager investing in Greater China.  Mr. Shaw has been involved in Asian private equity for 20 years and has managed a variety of investment transactions across Asia.  Over his investment career, Mr. Shaw has served as a director of several companies such as Flextronics International Ltd. of Singapore, China Fangda Group Co. Ltd. of China, SNP Leefung Holdings Ltd. of Hong Kong, Suga International Holdings Ltd. of Hong Kong, China Vanguard of China, Zhenzhong Auto Components Ltd. Of    China, and HWin International of China. 

Mr. Shaw began his working career in the oil industry with Tidewater Inc. in Singapore and then Union Texas Petroleum in Houston, Texas.  He joined Security Pacific National Bank’s merchant bank in New York in 1987, and then was transferred to Hong Kong in 1989 where he founded Security Pacific National Bank’s Asian private equity business.  Upon the merger of Security Pacific National Bank with the Bank of America in 1993, Mr. Shaw joined the Tudor Investment Group to open a Shanghai office to manage this hedge fund’s proprietary investments in China.  In 1996 he joined Schroders in Hong Kong as a Partner responsible for private equity investments in China.  Mr. Shaw left Schroders and founded Shaw Kwei & Partners in 1999.

Mr. Shaw received an M.B.A. degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1987 and a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Virginia in 1983.  He was president of the Wharton Club of Hong Kong for 3 years and currently a director, as well as a director of the University of Virginia Alumni Association in Hong Kong for past 10 years.  He studied Mandarin Chinese at Taiwan’s National Normal University Language Institute for foreign students in 1985, and has lived over 26 years in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Taiwan.
