Jaeyong Song received his Ph.D. at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Before joining SNU, he was a professor of strategy at Columbia Business School, Columbia University (1997 – 2001) and Yonsei University, Seoul (2001 – 2003). He was also an adjunct professor at the Australian National University and SUNY at Stony Brook. Professor Song served as an adjunct consultant to both the World Bank, the Medley Global Advisors (NY) and Rising Tiger Venture Capital Fund (Silicon Valley).

Jaeyong Song won both the Barry M. Richman Best Dissertation Award of the Academy of Management and the Gunnar Hedlund Best Dissertation Award from the European International Business Association in 1999.  He also won the Chazen Teaching Innovation Award at Columbia Business School in 1999 and the best performing professor award from Yonsei University (2003). In 2009, he won the Research Award given to the top research professors at Seoul National University.
 
His research has appeared in Management Science, the Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, Journal of Management, Journal of International Business Studies and many other top-tier journals.
